Treatment Program Overview

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)

Intensive outpatient treatment is approximately nine hours of group and/or individual therapy per week which is typically divided up into three-hour sessions three evenings to five evenings a week for 12-16 weeks duration. IOP is suitable for individuals who tend to be higher functioning, who may be employed or in school fulltime and have a social support system thereby allowing clients to practice and maintain their skills throughout the week. Individuals in IOP may have successfully completed a more intensive program such as residential treatment (RTC) or partial hospitalization (PHP) and are transitioning to a lower level of care but are not yet ready to go to traditional outpatient therapy which is 1-2 sessions (one to two hours per week). Some individuals are recommended by their therapist to attend IOP without going through a higher level of care if their eating disorder is milder in severity.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Partial hospitalization is a higher level of care than IOP, meaning that clients need more support and supervision in order to successfully manage and treat their eating disorder and any co-occurring mental health condition. PHP is still an outpatient level of care since clients do not reside at the treatment center but rather go home after a full day of therapy. Our Partial Hospitalization or day treatment program is offered up to six days a week 6 hours of clinical programming per day. Frequency of visits and number of hours depends on the individual’s needs. Typically, clients in PHP receive more group and individual or family therapy per week than clients in intensive outpatient and may have regular consultations with the psychiatrist for medication evaluation and monitoring. Average length of stay is 3-4 weeks though depends on severity of symptoms and progress in treatment.

Binge Eating Disorder Program

Center For Discovery offers specialized Binge Eating Disorder Treatment utilizing the principles of intuitive eating and health at every size. Discovery does not promote recovery through weight loss, is weight inclusive, stands for body acceptance and creates a safe space for clients to heal from the effects of weight stigma.

What We Do

Understand that eating disorders come in all shapes, sizes, genders, and cultures

Promote recovery by changing behaviors associated with binge eating

Provide a safe space to help heal internalized weight stigma

Inspire clients to find their recovery voice

What We Don't Do

Judge an individuals health or eating disorder based on their body, gender or culture

Promote recovery through weight loss

Perpetuate implicit biases related to weight

Support one idea of what recovery looks like

Path To Peace With Food

Path To Peace With Food, founded on Intuitive Eating and mindfulness principles, is designed to bridge the gap between disordered and attuned eating.  Binges can be chaotic and leave one feeling out of control and disconnected from their body.  Path To Peace With Food teaches the skills to move toward compassion, awareness, and freedom.

Intuitive Eating

Intuitive Eating practices empower clients to trust their body’s hunger and fullness cues, instead of using external rules and numbers that come with dieting practices, to nourish their bodies.

Health At Every Size® (HAES)

HAES is a paradigm that supports individuals adopting healthy behaviors for well being and not for weight loss/management/control.

Weight Inclusive Approach

The Discovery Difference in treating Binge Eating Disorder is simple: Create an inclusive environment where all bodies are safe and free from judgement by clients and professionals alike.
